In Unity we have our “greeting the Christ in one another,” which is our favorite Hug-fest, handshakes and smiles just before the service starts. Looking in the eye of our friends, neighbor or newcomer telling them how great it is to be in their presence today. All you see are smiles, lit up eyes, spirit levels lifted to a higher realm; in fact we have to ring the chime to get us back to our seats in time to start. This is a tradition in some families. We can integrate it into a personal trait because of the benefits we can get from such a full circle deal as a Hug. One knows that when you give a hug it is returned immediately. In other words, you cannot be in debt of a hug nor to be owed a hug either.
*Admit it: Nothing gives you comfort quite like a warm hug. Whether you‘re wrapped up in the arms of a partner, greeting a friend hello, comforting a child, hugs have a way of making us feel warm and fuzzy sometimes. But aside from making us feel protected and loved, this touching gesture can also do wonders for our well-being. There are plenty of reasons why we should embrace the act of embracing someone.
1. Make us feel good or create happiness 2. Lower our blood pressure 3. Tend to alleviate fears (especially in children) 4. Are good for our hearts 5. Natural stress reliever 6. Give us a sense of safety 7. Heal feelings of loneliness, isolation and anger 8. Strengthen our immune system 9. Boost self-esteem 10. Encourage empathy and understanding of one another
A Hugging Meditation
** When we hugs our hearts connect spiritually and we know that we are not separate beings. Hugging with mindfulness and concentration can bring reconciliations, healing, understanding and much happiness. Practice this hugging meditation with a friend, spouse, a child, your parents, a tree or pet for that matter. First bow to each other and recognize each other’s presence. Then, take three deep conscious breaths to bring yourselves fully into the present moment. Next, open your arms and begin embracing one another, holding each other for three more in and out breaths.
♥ First Breath: Become aware that you are present in this very moment and feel happy. ♥ Second Breath: Become aware that your hugging partner is present in this moment and feels happy as well. ♥ Third Breath: Become aware that the two of you are here together, right now on this Earth.
Now feel deep gratitude and happiness for having togetherness. Finally, release the other person and bow
