This Sunday we will take up the next awareness in our Untethered Soul series as we explore the topic of finding the "boon beyond comfort." This topic is perhaps the most uncomfortable and yet most profitable to explore. As the subtitle of our book indicates, the "journey beyond yourself," is where true freedom is found.
As we seek to control and protect ourselves from bumping into our fears and avoiding uncomfortable situations, we are erecting walls that limit our lives. There simply is no growth inside our comfort zone. As Jesus observed, those of us who seek to save our lives in this way will lose it, while those who can muster the courage to abandon protective living will gain new life.
We err in thinking that safety is our greatest need. Like ships made for sailing, our souls experience their true purpose and capacities when they leave safe harbors and venture into the sea of life, risking the upswell of longstanding fears for the promise of reaching a freer place within our soul.
